Art group – ‘Art Space’

I’m delighted to be able to host ‘Art Space’ as part of my offerings for your holistic wellbeing. It’s a safe, warm space to come and spend time with other likeminded people. It’s not quite a club as there’s no committee, just me as your host and organiser, but I hope we might from time to time work on shared projects such as a theme for the week, or all having a go at the same type of art, or an art show at the end of the year.

The idea is to bring along a project of your own to work on, if you have one, and we’ll have hot and cold drinks and snacks to munch on, nice background music, and just have a chilled space for a couple of hours to be creative alongside other people.

All kinds of art and crafts are welcome. Your project could be your latest oil painting, or it could be your favourite colouring book! You might be doing a study of a famous painting, or you could be doodling to your heart’s content. Maybe you prefer digital art, or feel content to sit and knit or crochet for a couple of hours. There is no set agenda for your work, only that you want to do it and it brings you some benefit.

Maybe you would like to come along but wouldn’t know what to work on, or have struggled to connect with your creativity? I hope that the group as a whole will be a place to bounce ideas off each other and inspire creativity and ideas, as well as sharing skills and tips. I’ll also be around to offer encouragement and will provide some prompts and basic materials if you need them. As the group develops, I hope to plan activities to suit the interests of as many people as possible. Let’s see where creativity takes us!

Art has so many benefits, and ‘Art Space’ is a place to have some of your self-care, social and creative needs met. This can bring so much benefit for your mental, emotional, spiritual and maybe even physical wellbeing. **BUT, I would like to clarify that this is not ‘art therapy’ and I am not running the group as an ‘art therapist.’** I am a qualified counsellor, and I do love art, but I do not have training as an art therapist. I hope to run more workshops and groups in the future which lean a bit more towards creative therapy, but for now this is more of a social, creative, art group. I am also not an art teacher, although I’m happy to share ideas and help you figure out what to work on and find resources to help your artistic and creative development.

Who can join?

‘Art Space’ is open to adults 18 and up. You don’t need to be an ‘artist’ or have any art qualifications. You don’t even need to feel like you’re any good at art! As long as you enjoy art, and you want a safe space to work on something and would like to socialise a bit at the same time then this is for you! 😊 The aim is for this to be a safe, friendly, relaxing group.
